Engineer Dave Rayment presents a learning module on specification for low embodied carbon for Architecture Today’s – School of Specification. He explains why it’s important that the battle to reduce embodied carbon cuts across the full palette of materials.
In the learning module he produced for School of Specification he runs through the most commonly used construction materials – concrete, timber, masonry and steel – and explains how to make design and specification decisions to reduce embodied carbon. He makes the case for positive change and that we need to act fast, this means the whole industry needs to work together. This in turn recognises the importance for all elements of the supply chain to be engaged rather than demonising particular materials or suppliers.
